When you're asked to join a Board or Committee, be very sure that you are aware of the responsibilities of Directors. In Ontario - other jurisdictions can and do differ - these include: 1) insuring that statutory withholdings in employee compensation - income tax, Canada Pension Plan, insured benefits, etc. If they are not made, directors can be jointly and severally liable; 2) make sure that you do not have a conflict of interest, apprehended or real - you can be sued; 3)make certain that you conduct a diligent enquiry into the affairs of the organisation, you can be sued for violations of statututes - environmental, employment standards .... the list could go on. This isn't what you asked for, but I think its important
