When my husband started exhibiting the dyskinesis that I know as 'Tardive
dyskinesis', common to over-medicated psych patients, I became alarmed.
Tardive dyskinesis can be permanent (in psyche patients) and I didn't want
Jamie going through the rest of his life flaying in the wind. Clearly, the
cause was Mirapex - Jamie never exhibited those symptoms until he started
the drug. Now we are weaning him slowly (he's down to 1 3/4 mgm/day) but
have seen no change in the dyskinesis. We have seen an increase in tremor
and dystonia (right large toe), however, and are beginning to question the
wisdom of removing him from the Mirapex. It seems we're always choosing
one side effect over another in trying to manage his disease - as a
consequence we have seen him develop a realm of other neurological symptoms
indicative of other diseases.
