Hi Janice, et al.
Thanks, Janice (and JoAnn and Amanda) for your work on the Canadian
SIG and session in Chicago -- and now for your planning for
Atlanta in 1999.
For a title, perhaps "Writing Programs Without Comp 101" might reflect
what I understand we're trying to explore.
For the Canadian caucus session, I propose the following submission:
Rationalizing Historical Weakness
---------------------------------
Writing programs without a dedicated first-year comp course MAY
theoretically be ideal, but in Canada they often reflect
impoverished necessity arising from an anti-rhetorical
history in English Studies. Today, that historical
bias is reinforced by fiscal retrenchment. Supporting this
arrangement undermines the weak gains recently made in Canadian writing
programs.
